Locomotive Hire and Maintenance

As well as the tamping machines, RAILWAY SUPPORT SERVICES have a number of shunting locomotives available for hire.

Ideal for use within depots or in the industrial sector, these Class 08 locomotives can come with an experienced operator or, as is more often the case, we can train your own personnel to operate them.

Overhauled to a high standard, a full maintenance package is also included to ensure maximum reliability.

In addition, any of Railway Support Services’ locomotives can be painted into our standard livery or into your own company corporate colour scheme/livery as we understand how important image can be.

In addition to locomotive hire, Railway Support Services can undertake overhaul and/or maintenance of your own locomotives. We have a team of qualified engineers located throughout the United Kingdom and we have two workshops - one located in the Midlands and the other in South Wales.

CLASS 08
Built during the steam to diesel transition period of British Railways, such was the success of these shunters that they were built in their hundreds and are still the staple traction for many yards and sidings. Such was their practicality that derivatives of these locomotives were built for export. We have several of these locomotives available for long or short term hire to suit your needs. The Class 08s are always in high demand due to their versatility and ease of operation and are ideal for any location.

CLASS 03
These small shunting locomotives are ideal for small industrial locations. Having a smaller engine size means they can be more fuel efficient and shut down confidently between use even for short periods of time. Our Class 03 locomotive has recently been overhauled to a very high standard and despite being the smallest locomotive in our fleet, is the pride and joy of Railway Support Services.
