Engineering Services
Situated less than one mile from the M42 motorway, our Birmingham workshops are located at the heart of the nation's transport network and are thus well placed to respond to all of your engineering requirements.
We have a well provisioned machine shop where we can undertake fabrication, welding, turning and milling work to your specifications as well as the manufacturing of replacement items for your rolling stock. Grit blasting and painting can also be undertaken.
We also have the facilities to undertake fabricating and welding work to your specifications, both at our workshop and off site.
Re-building of steam and diesel locomotives is an area in which Railway Support Services excels. On the steam front, J94 ‘No.15’ has been restored at our Birmingham workshops whilst work is also progressing on a Great Western 4200 2-8-0T Class. One of our diesel shunters, 08881, was overhauled at our workshops recently and further examples of this type of locomotive are currently receiving similar treatment, both for the Railway Support Services fleet and for a third party under contract.
Two items manufactured in our machine shop for the restoration of a Great Western tank locomotive Left: buffer beam; Right: rear outer drag box
Left: a newly machined locomotive steam heat valve casting.
